The trip will be held in its entirety on both May 7 and 8. Because of field constraints, each day’s trip will be limited to 25 attendees (other than the trip leaders). Do not sign up for both days so others can attend.
Time will be from 9 AM to 4 PM, meet and park at Cooper Surgical, 50 Corporate Drive, Trumbull. After this initial stop, vehicles will be moved a short distance to the cul-de-sac at the end of Corporate Drive. All further stops will be accessed on foot from there, no other driving will take place during the trip. Vehicles can be accessed during the trip if necessary. DO NOT PARK IN THE OLD MINE
PARK LOT, a town permit is required to use that parking lot. See link below for general park rules.
Each attendee is encouraged to download and read the free guidebook and geologic map from the DEEP website [see links below]. The trip stop description pages and a few selected small maps and figures from the guidebook will be handed out to attendees. The trip leaders will have a full copy of the guidebook and large map. Selected, representative mineral and rock samples will be brought by the leaders for all to view.
  • The trip will be rain or shine, attendees should bring appropriate clothing and rain gear as needed. The leaders will bring first aid kits.
  • Attendees must bring water/ drinks, lunch/ snacks for the day. There will be no opportunity to purchase food/ drinks.
  • The trails between field stops are well used and not too steep but hiking boots are strongly recommended as the trails may be muddy.
  • Poison ivy and ticks may be encountered, so take appropriate countermeasures.

By early May there may be available comfort facilities at the park. Otherwise, the nearest useable facility is at the Home Depot adjacent to the park. Breaks will occur during the field trip as needed so that attendees can access either facility.
